What Makes the iridescent color in Ammonite fossils? Ammonite fossils are formed from millions of years from pressure and heat from minerals within the shell’s nacre such as aragonite (a mineral is also found in pearls), Silica and Pyrite. The iridescent colors are created by the light reflecting the layers of the aragonite mineral. The iridescence is a result of the mineral’s microstructure rather than a chemical colorant.

Ammonite fossils are said to be associated with rebirth, transformation, and ancient wisdom. Also known to be a healing stone to the inner body, bringing balance to one's connections, and enhancing spiritual growth. Some would use this as a protection stone from negative energies. The spiral within the ammonite symbolizes cycles and evolution, making this a good stone for transformation and manifestations.
